Portrait commissions

I have been doing portait art commissions over 2 decades, I work the portraits in two types:

1. Traditional drawing over fine art paper.

Using pencils, graphite, charcoal, sanguine (professional art materials) over a high quality cardboard (usually Hahnemühle, or another acid-free fine art paper).

2. Digital illustration on Giclée print.

Starts from pencil sketch and they are draw and colored by computer, Giclée printed over acid-free cotton paper with a guarantee of 75+ years long-lasting. You must note that Giclée printing is the best print quality for an artwork and is commonly used to reproduce fine arts.

Frequent Asked Questions:

Why you need a photo reference?

Yes, I always need a high resolution photo for reference. In both cases I use the photo reference (one or more) for the illustration, to have the correct proportions of the model and to look for every detail as possible in the process of making the portrait.

How long does it takes to make a portrait?

For a single person it usually takes no more than a week or two. But definitely depends of the load of work I have at the time is requested and I will be absolutely clear about it once you contact me for it.

The portraits are photo-realistic?

No. As every artist who has develop an style, I use my own style, technique and artistic interpretation while drawing a portrait. Every customer who ask me for a portrait art commission already knows this, and before starting any work I send examples of the portraits I has made, and include a full detailed list of what implies.

Disclaimer:

In any moment I can share pictures or videos while I’m in the process of making the portrait. Except in special cases that the commission is under a confidentiality agreement.

Any suggestions on the commission must be made before it starts (i.e. a change of photo reference or details about the characters), if not it will cause a full charge and a re-start of the commission.

Every portrait is sealed with a professional charcoal fixative spray.

After 5 work days of delivered the portrait, I can post or publish the final artwork in my online portfolios or social networks, and/or use it as an example of my work by any need.
